Summary of Burning By-Law - (Please ask for a copy for more detailed information)

Fire Permits are required for any open air burning from

April 1st to October 31st. (Evening burning ONLY - 6pm - 8am)

 

    Fire Permits are available at the Township Office, Landfill Site, and at Kirk's Gas & Convenience.  The fee is $2 per permit and the duration of each permit is 6 days. 

 

    Small fires for warmth and cooking are permitted through the daytime hours with no fire permit required.

 

    During the Winter Season (November 1st - March 31st), you may have open air fires during daytime and evening hours with no Fire Permit.

 

Summary of Conditions for Fire Permits

A person who has obtained a fire permit shall:

a)    not permit more than one (1) cubic metre of material to be burned at any one time.

b)    said material to be limited to wood or wood by-products.

c)    situate the fire at least 10 metres from any building, vegetation or adjacent property.

d)    ensure that he/she has adequate tools and water to contain the fire.

e)    be in constant attendance during the fire.

f)     not allow a fire to continue to burn if the fire causes;

            - a decrease in visibility on any highway or roadway

            - inconvenience or irritation to others

g)    not allow a fire to burn during a time of high winds.

 

All Fire Permits will be cancelled when the Fire Hazard Condition reaches High, Extreme (Fire Ban) or a Restricted Fire Zone is imposed by the Ministry of Natural Resources.

 

Fines in the range of $100 - $200 are imposed for violations of this Burning By-Law.
