Tips on The Three R’S *REDUCE *REUSE *RECYCLE*
Reduce the amount of items that your household consumes by doing more with less and by buying products with little or no packaging. Instead of buying new items, REUSE items as much as possible. When you no longer need an item/product, recycle it. Try buying products that are made with mainly recycled materials. When you purchase products that are made with recyclable materials, you are closing the loop. Compost all food scraps and yard waste. You may find by doing this you are cutting your garbage in half. It does not take a big effort to recycle. Just a little motivation and initiative and the results are felt by everyone.
Entry to the site is prohibited when the gate is locked. Upon entering with the gate access card, please identify yourself to the Attendant before unloading any materials. The Attendant will direct you to the appropriate areas for your materials. All materials that are recyclable must be recycled. Only material from this Township will be allowed into the site. Any material found to be from another Township will be refused.
Tipping Fees and Charges Please check with the Attendant before bringing an item if you are unsure if there is a charge. ITEM: CHARGE: Car Tires $3.00 each (Larger)Truck $5.00 each Demo Material: $5.00 per small amount to $150.00 per tandem axle truck Large household Items -fridge,stove, TV,bed couch, etc. $6.00 each
***NEW*** Fridges, freezers, and all freon bearing appliances can now be taken to the Landfill Site for disposal with freon. Upon disposal, the doors must be taken off the appliance and a $35 tipping fee paid. No vehicles can be left at the site.***
There is no charge or limit for regular household garbage bags, but all recyclable items in those bags must be taken out or bags will be refused.

Tips on Composting Composting decomposes and transforms organic material into a soil-like product called humus. The composting process works best when the organic pieces are small. Weeds and trimmings should be shredded. Don't add thick layers of any one kind of waste. Grass should not be more than 6 cm deep, leaves up to 15 cm deep (cut or chop or dry and crumble them). The composted contents should be moist. If the contents are too dry, it will take overly long to compost; and if too wet, the contents may begin to smell. Turn or mix the compost every couple of weeks or each time you add new material. This keeps the compost well aerated. Composting can be done in the winter. You can add materials to your composter all winter long. The breakdown process slows down or stops when the pile is frozen, but it will start up again in the spring. Thorough turning in the spring will reactivate the pile. Empty the composter in the fall to make plenty of room.
Compost Materials:
From the Garden...
From the Kitchen..
Old potting soil
Tea bags DO NOT include... Meat, fish and bones, plastics, metals, fats and oils, dairy products, pet waste, cheese, or other sauces .
The McMurrich/Monteith Township Council thanks everyone for their efforts in recycling and composting.
