MINUTES OF McMURRICH/MONTEITH TOWNSHIP

COUNCIL MEETING –APRIL 3rd, 2006

 

McMurrich/Monteith Township council met on Monday, April 3rd, 2006 at 7:30p.m. in the municipal office/fire hall in Sprucedale.

 

Present were Reeve, Glynn Robinson, Councilors: Heather Wilson, Mervin Mulligan, John Murphy.  Absent with regret:  Carol Maki.

Members of the audience were:  Lloyd Nelson, Dave Stewart,  Chris Hope (Almaguin News), and Shawn Armstrong (Roads Foreman).

 

Meeting was called to order at 7:30pm by Reeve Glynn Robinson.

No declarations of pecuniary interest were declared.

Mulligan – Murphy   We accept the minutes of the Council Meeting held March 6, 2006.  CARRIED

 

There were no scheduled delegations.

 

Shawn Armstrong (Roads Foreman) made a presentation regarding tender for pickup truck and Dump Truck, COMRIF Funding, Move Ontario Grant, 911 sign verification and correspondence received regarding East Bear Lake Road.

 

Wilson – Murphy  That we initiate the tender process for the lease of a 2006 Pickup Truck and the purchase of a Dump Truck for the Roads Department as per agreed upon specifications from the Roads Foreman.  CARRIED

 

Correspondence was reviewed.

Wilson – Mulligan   That we support the resolution from the City of Sault Ste. Marie dated March 20, 2006 regarding the importance of the Northern Physician Retention Initiative.  CARRIED

 

Mulligan – Murphy  That we support the letter writing campaign from Rosemary Trombley and Carol Batchelor requesting the Ministry of Transportation to make improvements to Highway 518 West from Yearly Road to the western boundary of Monteith Township.  CARRIED

 

Business Carried forward was discussed.

Mulligan – Wilson  That Council accepts the Forest Fire Agreement with the Ministry of Natural Resources.  CARRIED

 

Council has additional questions regarding the Dispatch agreement with Peerless Security.  Staff was directed to receive another quote for the new computers and photocopier.  Duties for the Bylaw/Animal Control Officer were discussed.

 

New Business was discussed.

An application was sent to the Ministry of Natural Resources through the Bear Wise Program for 2 roll off recycling bins for the Landfill Site.

 

Bylaws were discussed

Wilson – Murphy  That we accept third reading and pass By-law 8-2006 regarding deeming Lot 6, Plan m-35 not to be a lot in a plan of subdivision in order to fulfill a condition of consent.  CARRIED

 

Reports were given.

Merv Mulligan reported on Almaguin Recycling Initiative, HazMat scheduled days, Park to Park, and Marketing Almaguin.  Glynn Robinson reported on the Steering Committee meeting.

 

Reeve, Glynn Robinson called for a 10 minute break

 

Council Concerns:   Assessment Reductions impact on Budget, Seniors Building roof leaking, Handicapped Parking signs, Office Building repairs, Council remuneration.

 

Dates to remember:  Budget Meeting – Tuesday, May 2nd – 9:30am

 

Murphy -Mulligan  That we accept the Accounts for Approval Report for the month of March, 2006 in the amount of $151,155.13.  CARRIED

 

Murphy  -  Mulligan  That we adjourn at 9:47pm until Monday, May 1st, 2006 or at the call of Reeve.  CARRIED
