MINUTES OF McMURRICH/MONTEITH TOWNSHIP

COUNCIL MEETING – SEPTEMBER 5th, 2006

 

McMurrich/Monteith Township council met on Tuesday, September 5th, 2006 at 7:30p.m. in the municipal office/fire hall in Sprucedale.

 

Present were Reeve, Glynn Robinson, Councilors: Heather Wilson, Mervin Mulligan, John Murphy and Carol Maki.

Members of the audience were:  Lloyd Nelson, Shawn Armstrong (Roads Foreman), Gary Hartford, Tina Scott, and Murray O’Halloran.

 

Meeting was called to order at 7:30pm by Reeve Glynn Robinson.

No declarations of pecuniary interest were declared.  A conflict of interest was declared by Glynn Robinson with regard to the correspondence received from John Helston.

 

Wilson -  Murphy   We accept the minutes of the Council Meeting held August 8th, 2006.  CARRIED

 

Glynn Robinson welcomed Tina Scott to the table.  Ms. Scott has requested the use of the ball field to organize a ball tournament on Saturday, September 23rd as well she would like to have some horseshoe pits created so that they could also have a horseshoe tournament.  All required permits will be provided when received and more detail will be given at the Recreation Committee meeting on September 12th.

 

Mulligan  - Maki           We permit Tina Scott and Bill Burns to organize a Ball Tournament that will be held on Saturday, September 23rd, 2006 at the Township’s Ball Field.  CARRIED

 

Murray O’Halloran was welcomed to the table.  Mr. O’Halloran wished to discuss a Township employee.

Maki – Mulligan           That Council enter into a closed session at 7:37 pm in order to discuss an employee.  CARRIED

Mulligan – Maki  That Council comes out of a closed session at 7:52pm  CARRIED

 

Shawn Armstrong, Roads Foreman was directed to construct the roadway into St.Pauls Cemetery as per the map provided by John Murphy.

 

Correspondence was reviewed.

Mulligan – Wilson         That we support the Municipality of Powassan’s resolution no. 2006-246 regarding the request to review the current lottery licensing procedures and terms and conditions with particular emphasis upon the use of proceeds.  CARRIED

 

Glynn Robinson declared a conflict of interest and left the table.  Merv Mulligan took the chair and reviewed the situation to Carol Maki who was absent the previous meeting. 

 

Wilson – Maki  Council permits John Helston to erect one 10’ x 10’ garden shed not to extend beyond the tree line on the east side of lot with the understanding that owner has permission from property owners on either side to erect building within 2 ft of property line.  CARRIED

 

Glynn Robinson resumed the meeting as chair.

 

New Business was discussed.

Murphy – Wilson          Council has no objections to the application for consent B-038/06 (W. Fisher) on Concession 1, Pt Lots 15, McMurrich Twp.  CARRIED

 

Reports were given. 

John Murphy reported on the MMCAP Meeting.  Heather Wilson reported on the Landfill Site.  Merv Mulligan reported on Park to Park, Almaguin Highlands Economic Development, and Glynn Robinson reported on the Almaguin Highlands Information Centre and Steering Committee meeting.

 

Council Concerns:  Highway cleanup, roadside signs prohibiting throwing out garbage, HazMat Day on September 16th at the Strong Twp Site and the Fall Municipal Association Meeting in October.

 

Glynn Robinson called a 10 minute break.

 

 

Wilson  - Murphy         That Council accepts the Accounts for Approval Report for the month of August, 2006 in the amount of $70,165.96.  CARRIED

 

Mulligan – Wilson         That we adjourn at 9:22pm until Sept. 12 or at the call of Reeve.  CARRIED
