Changes to Landfill Site
Effective January 1st, 2026 McMurrich/Monteith landfill site located at 2161 Highway 518 West, east of Sprucedale will be implementing a punch card or user pay program for disposal of refuse as per By-law #43-2025 passed by Township Council on September 16th, 2025.
Each user, the owner of a residence or multi residential property, or a tenant of a residence will be provided with one landfill punch card for each dwelling on the property, which will allow for the disposal of an allotted 52 bags of refuse per year. Bags of refuse are limited to a maximum size of 35” x 50” and users MUST use clear bags. Black/dark/tinted/coloured/white garbage bags are not accepted. As per By-law #38-2025 Fees Charged by the Municipality, there will be a charge of $3-$5/bag after the allotted 52 bags have been disposed of.
Vacant property owners must pay to dispose of refuse. Vacant property owners are not classified as users, but will be provided with one access card, which will allow access to the landfill site but vacant property owners must pay to dispose of bags of refuse. Vacant property means land with no dwellings, no houses, or no other permanent structures. Properties that occupy trailers are considered vacant property and owners must pay to dispose of refuse. Properties with an active building permit must acquire an occupancy permit prior to a landfill punch card being issued.
Commercial users must pay to dispose of refuse. Commercial users mean an owner/operator of an industrial, commercial, or institutional facility entitled to place refuse into the landfill. The access card will allow access to the landfill site but commercial users must pay to dispose of bags of refuse.

The landfill site accepts Cash, Debit, Visa, and Mastercard as payment for tipping fees.

Entry to the site is prohibited when the gate is locked. Upon entering please identify yourself to the Attendant before unloading any materials. The Attendant will direct you to the appropriate areas for your materials. All materials that are recyclable must be recycled. All recyclable items in bags must be taken out of the bags or they will be refused. Only material from this Township will be allowed into the site. Any material found to be from another Township will be refused. Please check with the Attendant before bringing an item if you are unsure if there is a charge.
